Local Soil and Drainage
Local lots often feature Fullerton gravelly silt loam, which is well drained with moderate infiltration, but we check the specific site before assuming how quickly its subgrade will drain. Bodine soil also occurs in the Southern Appalachian Ridges and Valleys. It is somewhat excessively drained, with medium-to-rapid runoff, so on a Bodine site, we plan for runoff control around the paved area. Across the region, Sun Belt soils carry shrink-swell potential, expanding and contracting with moisture changes.
Paving Near Creeks and Flood Zones
Low-lying areas along Spring Creek and West Chickamauga Creek near I-75 can flood during unusually heavy rain. Drainage and site elevation dictate how we plan paving in these locations to prevent the subgrade from washing out or failing prematurely.
Overlays and New Driveway Installation
Before laying an asphalt overlay, we clean the existing surface with a mechanical broom. We apply a tack coat uniformly with a pressure distributor and protect it from traffic pickup to ensure the new layer bonds. During paving, we feed hot-mix asphalt to the paver while maintaining a steady material supply and paving speed. When a driveway requires complete replacement rather than an overlay, a new asphalt driveway installation costs $7 to $13 per square foot.

We Do the Work
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
What this typically involves:
- For a full-depth patch, saw-cut and remove failed pavement to firm support, prime the patch bottom and sides, place hot-mix asphalt, and compact it flush with the adjoining surface.
- Before sealcoating, clean the pavement and repair cracks; mix the sealer and apply coats, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the next.
What It Typically Costs
Typical ranges, not a fixed price - the exact number is confirmed in writing before work starts.
$8–$15
