Managing Dalton's Weather and Soil
Our area gets periodic heavy-rain events that test drainage and grading on every surface we touch. We grade the site so water moves away from the pavement. Beneath the surface, Dalton has mixed regional soils with moderate moisture retention. If the base doesn't drain, that trapped moisture eventually compromises the asphalt above it. We prep the base to ensure it remains stable before any paving equipment arrives.
Laying the Asphalt
The paving process relies on consistent material placement. We run the mix through a paver screed to lay a uniform mat at the correct thickness and slope. The screed does the initial leveling, setting up the surface for the rollers. Getting this step right ensures the final surface won't have dips that hold water after a storm.

The Rolling Sequence
Compaction dictates how long the pavement survives. We begin breakdown rolling right behind the paver while the mix is still hot. Once that initial pass is done, we complete compaction and finish rolling with suitable rollers to get the surface tight. We keep our roller speed at or below 3 mph and use a planned rolling pattern to achieve uniform compaction across the entire driveway or lot.
Resurfacing vs. Sealcoating Costs
When the base is still solid but the top is weathered, we can often leave the existing pavement in place. Asphalt resurfacing runs $1 to $3 per square foot and provides a completely new wearing course. If the surface is in good shape but needs protection from the elements, asphalt sealcoating costs $1 to $2 per square foot. We evaluate the pavement's condition to determine which approach fits the site.

We Do the Work
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
What this typically involves:
- Correct uneven grade by grading the base, milling high spots, or placing a leveling lift where milling is not an option. [S3]
- Before an overlay, repair pavement failures, patch potholes, and thoroughly sweep debris from the surface. [S5]
What It Typically Costs
Typical ranges, not a fixed price - the exact number is confirmed in writing before work starts.
