East Ridge Driveways
Many of the Cape Cod, bungalow, and ranch-style homes in East Ridge still have their original driveways. With older red brick and vinyl-sided houses dating back to the mid-century, that asphalt has endured decades of load-bearing and weather exposure. The base beneath the asphalt may be perfectly fine, but the top inches of pavement eventually crack and oxidize past the point where sealcoating helps. Milling lets us remove only what's worn out and leave the solid foundation in place.
The Milling and Paving Process
We run a cold milling machine to pull up the damaged asphalt to a specified depth. The most critical step is cleaning the milled surface before the next paving operation. If loose material or debris is left behind, the new asphalt won't bond, leading to delamination. Once the surface is clean, we lay fresh asphalt using a paver equipped with a vibratory screed. That vibration works the material into corners and edges before we compact it to the final density.

Soil and Drainage Factors
The ground under most East Ridge driveways is Fullerton gravelly silt loam. It is well-drained with moderate infiltration, which is relatively favorable for asphalt compared to slower-draining soils in the region. However, we always check the specific lot before assuming how quickly its driveway subgrade will drain. Even with good soil, water getting under the edges causes surface failure. We grade the new surface to keep water moving away from the asphalt edges.
Pricing and Alternatives
If your driveway only has a few isolated cracks, we can prep the joints with a hot-air lance to heat, clean, and dry them for crack sealing. But if the surface is too far gone for patching or milling, you need a full replacement. New asphalt driveway installation runs $7 to $13 per square foot. For milling and overlay work, pricing depends on the square footage and the depth we need to mill. We assess the base condition in person and provide a firm price before starting the job.

We Do the Work
Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
What this typically involves:
- Proof-roll the subgrade or aggregate base; stabilize deficient areas or remove and replace unsuitable material before paving. [S3]
- Correct uneven grade by grading the base, milling high spots, or placing a leveling lift where milling is not an option. [S3]
What It Typically Costs
