Laying the hot mix
For larger patch areas, we bring in a mechanical asphalt paver and a paver screed to lay the material evenly. As soon as the mix is down, we begin breakdown rolling directly behind the paver while the asphalt is still hot. This initial pass achieves the bulk of the density required to lock the aggregate together.
Compaction and rolling patterns
After the breakdown pass, we complete compaction and finish rolling with suitable rollers. We keep roller speed at or below 3 mph. Moving too fast pushes the mix instead of packing it. We use a planned rolling pattern across the patch to achieve uniform compaction so the repaired area doesn't settle under traffic.

Hot-patch pricing
Hot-patch asphalt repair runs $2 to $5 per square foot. We measure the exact dimensions of the failing area to calculate the total. This rate covers the material, the paving equipment, and the compaction process.
Grading against heavy rain
Dalton’s periodic heavy-rain events test drainage and grading across paved surfaces. A patch has to sit flush with the surrounding asphalt so it doesn't create a new low spot. If water ponds on or around the new repair, the underlying base will eventually soften.

Our crew does the work, checks it, and leaves the site clean. You see everything we did.
What this typically involves:
- Correct uneven grade by grading the base, milling high spots, or placing a leveling lift where milling is not an option. [S3]
- Before an overlay, repair pavement failures, patch potholes, and thoroughly sweep debris from the surface. [S5]
What It Typically Costs
Typical ranges, not a fixed price - the exact number is confirmed in writing before work starts.
